FERRIS - Locals came out in full force for the annual Ferris Pioneer Days Saturday, Oct.3 with smiling faces on old and young alike.

Many were relieved the rain didn’t start coming in until later that afternoon.

The parade kicked-off at 10 a.m. with the roaring sirens of fire trucks, laughter and hollering , children trying to grab candy from passing floats by local community businesses along with Grand Marshals Carl and Betty Watson was just the beginning to a fun-filled day.

"They just came up to me after the parade and said we won first place for best float, said T.J. Fabby of the Ellis County Conservatives.

Ferris Library won second place in the contest.

"Yay!!" said Vivian Oyervides, Ferris Public Library employee.

Once the parade ended, patrons scattered about to either mingle with friends and family while karaoke was turning out country tunes everybody could sing along and boot scoot to, or munching down on homemade fried pies, BBQ and tamales from various vendors.

The day wouldn’t be complete without the traditional bout of Ellis County politics.

County Judge Carol Bush, seeking actual election by voters in 2010 , was seen walking around with her daughter after she finished in the parade talking with residents and Bob Carroll, running against Bush in the next years March primaries, was in full tow with an antique car in the parade and booth set up not too far away from Javier’s restaurant.
