A DPS officer was shot Monday night as he assisted the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force with serving an arrest warrant at an apartment complex on 52nd Street in Dallas. The officer, Sgt. Investigator Armando Lopez Jr., is in stable condition.

Lopez is stationed in Hurst and is an investigator with the Criminal Law Enforcement Division. He has been with DPS since Oct. 1995.

He was a Highway Patrol Trooper in Denton from 1996 to 2005, when he promoted to the Criminal Intelligence Service. He was stationed briefly in San Antonio, then was stationed in Garland from 2005 to 2008, when he transferred to the Hurst office.

Several law enforcement officers from Dallas-area police agencies were participants in the task force action last night. For more information about the incident itself, please contact Mark White, the FBI PIO in Dallas.
