WILMER – After Wilmer-Hutchins School District fell to bankruptcy years ago, parents were forced to relocate their children to surrounding districts.

This year, with the opening of the Wilmer Charter School, parents still arent satisfied with their childrens learning environment.

Concerned parent Matina Abney, was upset when she discovered the conditions under which her child was learning.

"Some children have no desks," said Abney, "they are forced to sit on the floor."

Abney said there are other concerns she and other parents were upset with.

"We weren t allowed to take our children in through the doors," she said.

"These conditions along other factors are reasons why I plan to eventually withdraw my child," she said.

One factor, Abney mentioned, was the schools failure to employ a crossing guard to assist students walking along Beltline Road and Dallas Ave.

Abney, like other parents enrolled their children at Wilmer Charter School to prevent the bussing of students outside the area.

"Its more convenient to have my children attend school right here," said Abney, "close to home."

In a KDFW Fox 4 report, school President John Dodd said more changes will take place as the school year progresses.
