RED OAK - Local law enforcement officers all throughout Texas will be stepping up Labor Day weekend while millions of motorists are out driving visiting family and friends on their last end of summer road trip.
Red Oak Police Chief Craig Rudolph will have his department take part with others across the country in "Drunk Driving: Over the limit, Under Arrest" crackdown on impaired and reckless alcohol related driving Aug. 21 – Sept. 7.
"If you drive while intoxicated over the Labor Day weekend in Red Oak, you are going to jail," said Rudolph.
The country wide crackdown involves saturation patrols as well as $13 million in media campaigns supplemented by state-funded advertising.
August and September are the most deadliest periods on the roadways according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
There were more than 11,000 alcohol related deaths in 2008 – deaths that could have been prevented.
ROPD asks motorists to
please use caution, buckle up and don’t get behind the wheel if you are drunk.
"Thousands of officers will be patrolling streets and highways all over Texas and you will be arrested if you are driving while intoxicated," said Rudolph.
