WAXAHACHIE – Christopher Cameron, 24, a coach at Waxahachie Independent School District was arrested on two counts Monday, Aug.3 for tampering with a witness and having an improper relationship with educator/student.
This past May, when students found out of the relationship between Cameron and an unnamed girl were apparent, school officials were notified.
Allegedly, some unidentified students said that even when the district knew about it, they waited to act or report anything so prom wouldn’t be effected at the high school.
From the statement issued by the school on May 22, the employee was immediately suspended with pay pending an investigation into the allegations of improper conduct involving a student.
The employee then subsequently resigned his position with the district on May 28 according to Nicole Mansell, public relations director.
Thomas Styles, identifying himself as the girl’s father was furious about the allegations.
"I am the father and just learned of the false rumors that have been implied on my daughter, "said Styles.
"When I was a kid in school, this happen to the norm. Thank God we got laws in place now. "With these laws in place now, I will make damn sure that they are used.
"You know, I just told my wife as we heard about this. I am in the business knowing you never believe anything you hear and half of what you see."
"Rumors, they’re like A** H****, everyone has one . I think as I am now getting involved with this, MY daughter’s name will be cleared and she will be compensated, and all involved will not forget about this."
According to the arrest affidavit, Sgt.Woodruff, detective with the criminal investigations unit at the Waxahachie Police Department, met with WHS assistant principal Neal Brown, where he explained that he met with the girl involved and she voluntarily provided him with her cell phone records for the month of April.
It was apparent a large number of text messages were between her cell and a number known to be used by Cameron.
Brown informed the detective during their meeting that he had personally met with and spoke with each member involved as well as Kristy Cameron, Coach Cameron’s wife who works at the school as a counselor.
The affidavit also stated, "All written statements provided by the three of them reflect that the Cameron’s were counseling the girl about personal problems she was having.
"Nothing was mentioned about sexual intercourse at all.
"As soon as Sgt. Woodruff met with the girl involved, she told him that she had an affair lasting about three months while having sex two to three times a week.
"The girl explained the affair started back in February until the coach’s wife confronted them around the beginning of May while then going into detail about after being confronted, the Cameron’s had a meeting where they both suggested to her to "go along with their story so they could keep this from going any further" saying they were counseling her.
"This meeting was indicated to have occurred "after everything came out."
Cameron was bailed out of Wayne McCollum Detention Center on two bonds of $8,000 and $25,000 respectively.
