AUSTIN – Over the weekend the Texas Press Association held its annual "Texas Better Newspaper Awards" contest with The Ellis County Press winning first place for "Best Newspaper Web Site."

"I believe all the video coverage around the county helped tremendously," said Megan Gray, reporter.

"All of us here at the paper just take it up a step further to increase readership in the new age of media."

The site, www.elliscountypress.com, updates throughout the day with the latest breaking news and headlines, be it council agendas or a fatality on a major road.

Other honors received in Austin were second place in the weekly newspaper division for "Headline Writing" and fourth place for "Sports Coverage".

"I’m extremely proud of my staff and the recognition we have been blessed to receive," said Charles D. Hatfield Jr., publisher.

The TBNA’s were passed out Saturday, June 20, at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Austin during the 130th TPA annual convention.
