2 arrested in marijuana seizure
Ellis County Sheriff Johnny Brown reported on May 27 at around 2:14 p.m., Deputy Moyer was on patrol and saw a green Jeep Cherokee on Interstate Highway 35-E traveling at a speed in excess of the posted speed lim-it.
Moyer confirmed with radar the vehicle was speeding and effected a traffic stop at about mile marker 387 north bound.
When Moyer approached the vehicle, he smelled the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.
The driver was identified as Travis W. Carlson, age 17, and the passenger was identified as Ronald R. Isom, age 24.
Both gave addresses in Elgin.
Upon doing a pat down of Carlson, an illegal switchblade knife was found sticking out of his pocket.
Approximately five pounds of marijuana and a loaded 9 mm pistol was found when the vehicle was searched.
Both individuals were arrested and brought to the Wayne McCollum Detention Center.
Both Carlson and Isom were charged with possession of marijuana greater than 5 pounds but less than 50 pounds with bond set at $10,000 and unlawfully carrying a weapon,
Carlson was also charged with possession of prohibited weapon with bond set at $5,000.
Brown reported seizure papers will be filed on the Jeep Cherokee carrying the marijuana with a street value of between $2,000-$2,500.
Brown also said he appreciates the back-up unit from Italy P.D. assisting and he maintains continued cooperative efforts between law enforcement agencies in the county provides the best possible service for all Ellis County citizens.
