CALLS NEEDED IMMEDIATELY TO OPPOSE A DANGEROUS TEXAS PRO-ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION BILL ABOUT TO BECOME LAW

SB 1398 would prevent cities like Farmers Branch from imposing restrictions on those who rent to illegal aliens

Texas Immigration Activists:

A Pro-Illegal Immigrant bill is about to become law if the Governor and your Representatives don't hear from you NOW.

IMMEDIATE CALLS are needed to Texas Governor Rick Perry -- ask him to VETO SB 1398 if it gets voted favorably out of the House and to his desk.

SB 1398 is opposed by the Immigration Reform Coalition of Texas (IRCOT) and our national partner immigration groups.

SB 1398, would prevent cities like Farmers Branch from imposing restrictions on those who rent to illegal aliens.

After calling the Governor, call your Representative (see contact info links below) and tell him/her to VOTE AGAINST SB 1398 (see talking points below).

SB 1398 TALKING POINTS FOR GOV. PERRY & YOUR REPRESENTATIVE -- Oppose SB 1398 Pro-Illegal Immigration Bill:

    * Please do everything possible to defeat SB 1398,a bill aimed at cities like Farmers Branch that are trying to fight illegal immigration by enacting ordinances that require only legal residents to occupy housing in their communities. If this bill clears the legislature, it must be vetoed.

    * The City of Farmers Branch has spent well over $1 million to defend its license ordinance. If passed into law, SB 1398 would interfere with ongoing legal proceedings concerning the validity of the ordinance requiring a rental license to occupy a single or multifamily unit in the city.  It would strip a city's local control to issue licenses and cost tax payers a great deal of money in the process.

    * The bill is an end-around of the legal system and violates the rights of Texas cities to regulate local affairs. Stopping the Farmers Branch efforts with this legislation will also eliminate the possibility of other communities benefiting from the outcome of the court concerning illegal immigration. In effect, the legislation would derail efforts by many communities to help the federal government address the illegal immigration problem.

Governor Rick Perry Toll Free at:  1-800-252-9600 or 1-800-843-5789 or 512-463-2000
E-Mail the Governor at:   http://governor.state.tx.us/contact/assistance.aspx

WHEN YOU CALL THE GOVERNOR ON SB 1398 -- TELL HIM YOU ARE EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED THAT NO LEGISLATION HAS BEEN PASSED THIS SESSION TO PROTECT YOUR FAMILIES FROM THE GROWING NUMBER OF CRIMINAL ILLEGAL ALIENS IN OUR COMMUNITIES.  ALSO, TELL HIM YOU WILL REMEMBER WHO STOOD IN THE WAY COME ELECTION DAY!

Also, please contact Speaker Joe Straus and your Representative and ask them to work to defeat SB 1398.
