WILMER - The much talked about charter school is officially set to open for the 2009-2010 school year.
John Dodd, president of the Honors Academy, a branch of charter schools in the metroplex, was present at Mayor Jeff Steele’s town hall meeting last week to announce his seventh academy will be open for enrollment later this month.
A charter school is a state-funded elementary or secondary school not administered by a local school district.
Wilmer Academy will be open just for grades Kindergarten through grade 8 at this time.
Steele stated this endeavor brings quality neighborhood education, more jobs and a magnet to attract businesses and homeowners.
