FERRIS- Gerald Tyler, 64, served his last day as a postal worker on Jan. 2 after serving 31 years in the postal service, 30 of them being in his hometown of Ferris.
"I got my start over in Dallas at the bulk mailing center when my friend told me about the benefits given and they were hiring when I needed a paycheck," said Tyler.
Tyler, a graduate of East Texas State University in 1967, started his first day in the fall of 1978.
Before he was farming and raising cattle.
"One of my fondest memories that will stay with me, is the people.
"Being able to see and serve your community everyday you grow up in is something I’ll always keep with me," said Tyler.
Tyler now plans to take advantage of his retirement and do a little traveling, fishing and hunting.
