Country music stars husband appointed mayor

WILMER – The Wilmer City Council appointed the husband of country music star Janie Fricke Thursday, Nov. 20 to its vacant mayoral seat.
Jeff Steele takes the place of Don Hudson, who won re-election in May but moved to his retirement home near Palmer.
Steele’s appointment was approved on a 4-1 vote, with Councilman Eugene Lowe casting the dissenting vote.
Steele will serve out the remainder of Hudson’s term and be up for re-election in 2010.
