WASHINGTON, D.C. – Sens. John Cornyn and Kay Bailey Hutchison, both Republicans, voted for the $700 billion bailout of Wall Street banks, much to the anger from Ellis County and Texas constituents.
Cornyn, locked in a re-election race with Democrat Rick Noriega and Libertarian Yvonne Schick, voted with Hutchison and 73 other senators in the 75-25 vote.
Hutchison, preparing for 2010 run for governor, also voted for the bailout package the House of Representatives voted against last Monday, but passed on the second try two days after the Senate approved their version.
Congressman Joe Barton, R-Ennis, voted against the bailout both times. Barton, elected in 1984, faces Democrat Ludwig Otto and Libertarian Max Koch in the November general election.
