JAILHOUSE ROCKED
– The historic county jail in downtown Waxahachie, constructed in 1929, met its fate with construction crews and wrecking balls Monday, Sept. 22. The demolition paves the way for the county’s new government buildings – including a new jail – and a parking garage. The first government building project was rejected by voters, but county commissioners used a tax anticipation note to fund it anyway. Due to the excessive mold and water damage, county officials razed the voter-rejected projects; taxpayers are still paying the note on the now-empty lot, however.
