Ellis County Judge Chad Adams issued a Declaration of Disaster on Sept. 11,  in anticipation of the need to provide safe shelter for evacuees threatened by Hurricane Ike.

Earlier this week officials began planning to receive those individuals who make the decision to move themselves and their families to safety.

All evacuees are being received at the Mesquite Reception Center which is best reached by taking the Lawson Exit off of I-20.  The center is located at 15515 I-20 @ Lumley Rd.

Once they have checked in at that location, they will be assigned to area shelters as those shelters are staffed and opened.
