MESQUITE – The Ferris Yellow Jackets play host to California’s Sutter Union Huskies Saturday, Aug. 30 in the first meeting between the two schools, billed as the California vs. Texas Shootout by the West Coast school.
"The Texas vs. California match-up is sure to be an exciting experience," said Ferris head coach Randy Barnes, who begins another year with high expectations after last year’s team made the playoffs with a 7-4 record.
The schools will play at Mesquite’s Hanby Stadium (Mesquite High School’s home turf) beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Sutter Union, which also plays a team from Oregon later in the season, is located a few miles north of Sacramento and is considered the same geographic and student population size as Ferris.
Festivities for the match-up include a speaking engagement with former Oakland Raiders wide receiver Tim Brown and a barbecue dinner for both schools provided by Ferris the night before.
