ENNIS – Despite the pleas of parents, students, alumni and community activists, Catholic leaders in Dallas have decided to close St. John’s Catholic School.
A debt of close to $200,000 was paid off last school year, but lower enrollment figures helped spur the decision to close the school, according to media reports and e-mails to The Ellis County Press.
Many students are expected to enroll in the Ennis Independent School District or surrounding districts, according to parents, or attend St. Joseph Catholic School in Waxahachie.
