Sergeant arrested for assaulting wife

ENNIS – Sgt. Jeff Smith was reportedly arrested by Midlothian police for assaulting his wife last week, according to published news and incident reports.

Smith, who is still employed with Ennis PD, lives in Midlothian and was arrested Friday, June 20.

Assault-family violence crimes, according to local defense attorneys, carry heftier punishments for alleged suspects.

Chief John Erisman told the Ennis Daily News Smith’s workload would be dispersed among other investigators pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
