Waxahachie Post Office getting make-over
WAXAHACHIE – The U.S. Postal Service announced the Waxahachie Post Office will undergo a complete renovation and expansion.
Congressman Joe Barton (R-Ennis) and his staff have been working with U.S. Postal Service for many years to get this project approved.
"I am pleased this project has been approved for Waxahachie. "My staff has worked diligently to bring city leaders and Postal officials together to make this a reality.
"The newly renovated and expanded facility will provide the people of Waxahachie with double the parking places, more P.O. Boxes and the most updated service. Residents will not recognize the Post Office when the work is completed," said Rep. Barton.
The U.S. Postal Service, the City of Waxahachie, the Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce and numerous citizens were all involved in the planning process.
Once work begins, the project will take about 18 months to complete. Postal officials say they will stay open during construction.
The U.S.P.S. also announced that a satellite location, known as a Contract Postal Unit or CPU, will be opened at the Money Mart. It is located at 600 North Highway 77.
CPU’s offer almost all the same services found at a regular Post Office.
Dates have not yet been finalized for the opening of the new Post Office or the CPU.
Rep. Barton represents the 6th district of Texas, which includes Waxahachie and all of Ellis County.
He is serving his 12th term in Congress and was first elected in 1984.
