Construction of the Red Oak Road re-alignment shows signs of progress.  Work crews are in the middle of expanding Red Oak Road from Interstate Highway 35 East., efforts city officials hope will relieve congestion on the city’s main arteries and connect downtown to city offices in the west. Bill Pierce, area engineer for the Texas Department of Transportation, said the Red Oak Road expansion and extension could start handling traffic as soon as mid-May, depending on weather. Pierce, who works out of the Waxahachie office, said the extension was paid for by the federal government, which kicked in 80 percent of the funding, and the city’s funding of 20 percent. Pierce said traffic could still pass through even though it might not be fully completed. Pierce expects the road to be semi-opened in time for Red Oak’s frontage roads being opened for one way-only traffic.
