PALMER - John Zaidel was named the new police chief in Palmer Friday, after Cary Scott Lynch resigned last week.
Zaidel, 28, will become one of the youngest 'top cops' in the area.
He previously served as a sergeant of the department, which serves a population of 1,950 in eastern Ellis County.
Lynch, whose supporters often-times claimed he was the target of an uncessary 'fishing expedition,' was brought before the city council numerous times in the past few months over infractions ranging from failure to wave to the mayor in public to raising his voice to employees.
He was recently given a reprimand by the city council - which it unanimously upheld after an hour-long open session March 18 - for a list of the aforementioned infractions. Lynch, who still lives in Palmer, has been rumored to be looking at a Palmer City Council seat. Deadlines for filing for city council and school board end at 5 p.m. on Monday.
