MIDLOTHIAN - Ellis County Republicans are urging Midlothian area taxpayers to vote against a $103 million bond proposition on Nov. 6.

The Ellis County chapter of the Republican Liberty Caucus started several months ago and details their reasoning for voting against the three propositions on their website, www.ellisRLC.com.

The members consist of individual Republicans from all parts of the county and recently they received an infusion of support from the statewide RLC leadership to fight what is apparently going to be an interesting battle.

'Taxpayers didn't get the tax cuts they were promised, sorry to say,' said RLC executive director Don Zimmerman. 'It's because our school districts are fighting to increase taxes faster than the Legislature can ‘cut them.' Their own ballot language states that a tax will be levied as to any rate and amount.'

Indeed, the main reason for urging members to vote no has been what is included in the three ballot propositions; 'the levying of a tax, unlimited as to rate or amount,' as the three propositions state, should be of major concern, Zimmerman said.

'There are three tax hikes in three bond propositions and there are three land purchases included in three propositions.'

Proposition 1
'The issuance of $98,000,000 of school building bonds for acquiring, constructing and equipping school buildings of the district and the purchase of necessary sites therefor, including constructing and equipping a new high school, and acquiring land therefor; and the levying of a tax, unlimited as to rate or amount, in payment of the bonds and to pay the costs of any credit agreements executed in connection with the bonds.'

Proposition 2
'The issuance of $2,500,000 of school building bonds for acquiring, constructing and equipping school buildings of the district and the purchase of necessary sites therefor, including constructing and equipping an agricultural science facility, and acquiring land therefor; and the levying of a tax, unlimited as to rate or amount, in payment of the bonds and to pay the costs of any credit agreements executed in connection with the bonds.'

Proposition 3
'The issuance of $1,700,000 of school building bonds for acquiring, constructing and equipping school buildings of the district and the purchase Of necessary sites therefor, including acquiring land for future school sites; and the levying of a tax, unlimited as to rate or amount, in connection with the bonds.'
