Texas Department of Transportation began debris removal and disposal on Monday, Oct. 8 and will continue for 30 days.

Various locations involving the more than 400 bridges on the state highway system in Ellis County.

Heavy rain earlier this year resulted in large amounts of timber and brushy debris being deposited under several bridges throughout Ellis County.

The debris must be removed to allow future rainfall to travel safely under bridges without causing floods or additional damage to structures.

TxDOT has hired Ed Bell Construction Company to remove and dispose of the material at a cost of $249,000.

During this time period, TxDOT advises motorists to drive carefully when approaching local bridges and to watch for workers, trucks and heavy equipment.

The work will take place each day weather permitting.
