I-35E Closed Fiday in Red Oak for Demolition Project
RED OAK - The Texas Department of Transportation closed northbound and southbound Interstate-35E at US 77 in Red Oak Friday, Sept. 7 at 10 p.m. The highway remained closed through late Saturday.
'This closure was necessary to allow for the demolition of the old US 77 underpass structure,' said Bill Pierce, P.E., TxDOT's Ellis County area engineer. Frontage roads for I-35E remained open but were heavily congested.
'Demolition of the old bridge is now possible following the opening of a new underpass directly to the north of this structure on Aug. 25,' said Pierce.
'The new bridge for US 77 was built as part of TxDOT's I-35E improvement
'It aligns with the city of Red Oak's planned arterial roadway to the west and should also improve the intersection layout and operation where US 77 meets I-35E, just north of Waxahachie.'
Message boards announcing the roadway closure have been placed in both directions along I-35E in Dallas and Ellis Counties to notify the public of the scheduled closures. Law enforcement will be present to provide traffic control.
Construction of the $61.5 million TxDOT project in Red Oak to reconstruct I-35E and add two mainlanes from Parkerville Road to US 77 is being performed by Ed Bell Construction Company of Dallas, Texas.
The work will take place weather permitting.
