RED OAK - A pastor from the Duncanville Church of Christ laid down his motorcycle last week and was taken by Air Evac to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas.

The Red Oak and Glenn Heights fire and police departments and East Texas EMS responded to the accident at 10:45 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, on Ovilla Road.

According to witnesses at the scene, Gregory Wayne Lucas, 52, of Red Oak was traveling east on Ovilla Road, while looking down, he did not notice the traffic in front of him had slowed and by the time he looked up it was too late.

'He swerved to miss the traffic in front of him and laid down his bike, sliding into oncoming traffic,' said Officer Charles Moses said.

Moses said Lucas was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident when he was catapulted from his motorcycle and landed head first on the pavement.

Lucas was still in critical condition at the time of this publication.

The accident has to remain open for 30 days in case Lucas' condition deteriorates.

'The investigation is complete at this time,' said Moses.

'But the state requires it to remain open in case we have to go back out and do a graph of the accident.

'This would only happen if Mr. Lucas does not pull through.'
