Former Ennis High School football star arrested

ENNIS - According to media outlets the Ennis police arrested a 24-year-old Ennis man Thursday morning on assault charges.
Det. Lt. Ron Roark said Officers Mark Mahoney and Brad Sherrard were dispatched to the 800 block of N. Clay St. at 12:38 a.m. in reference to a disturbance.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with the complainant, who stated the suspect had attacked her in her home.
She stated the man choked her and pushed her against a wall. Roark said she reported when she attempted to phone police, the suspect took her phone away and threw it against the wall.
A witness at the scene told police she heard an argument happening.
The complainant said she pushed the suspect away and crawled through a window to escape.
She reported to police that she went inside the witness' residence and phoned police.
Roark said the suspect was taken into custody and transported to Ennis Police Department without further incident.
Marlon Jones, 24, of Ennis was charged with assault family violence.
Jones was previously involved in a hit-and-run accident on Nov. 29, 2000 which took the lives of two Ennis women.
Jones suited up to play football two days later and according to past news reports was given little punishment for the accident.
The accident occurred at 8:48 p.m. at night on the west service road to I-45 less than half a mile north of Ennis Avenue.
According to police, Jones, 17 at the time, was headed southbound on the service road when he struck Catherine Jones, 24, and Chrystina Windiate, 23, who police reported were walking along the roadway.
Jones was charged with failure to stop and render aid after driving home and contacting police regarding the accident.
