RED OAK - A junior at Red Oak High School died after a two-car accident on FM 2377 in Red Oak on Thursday, April 5.

Matthew Blake, 17, was traveling eastbound on 2377 after school on Thursday when he reportedly took a right curve going above the posted speed limit of 55 miles per hour, sending his car off the right shoulder.

Blake tried to regain control of his 2004 Ford Focus, overcorrecting and sending it into oncoming traffic.

The driver of the other vehicle, Tom Russell Mack, 51, of Palmer, suffered broken bones but no life-threatening injuries.

Blake was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Bill Woody.

Blake's family has set up a memorial fund at Wooden Elementary School in Red Oak, which they asked people to donate to in lieu of sending flowers.
