WAXAHACHIE - Ellis County Commissioners held a brief executive session Tuesday morning during a specially-called meeting.
On the table: creating a process to select the next Judge for Ellis County Court at Law Number 1.
Following the unexpected resignation of Judge Bob Carroll effective April 30, commissioners were faced with the task of appointing a new judge, who would preside until the next general election in 2008.
'Anybody who is interested in making application for appointment as Judge of the County Court at Law No. 1 should send a letter and resume to my office by Monday, April 9 at 5 p.m.,' said County Judge Chad Adams, when the court reconvened after executive session.
'When those letters and resumes are received, they will be file stamped and immediately faxed to each one of the commissioners.'
Adams said applicants were encouraged to contact each one of the commissioners and commissioners could contact applicants as well.
Applicants must be licensed to practice law in the state of Texas, with at least four years of legal practice.
All applicants must have resided in Ellis County for the last two years or more.
'On Friday, April 13, there will be a special Commissioners' Court meeting, at which time candidates selected by each of the commissioners will be interviewed,' Adams continued.
'If you are a candidate of interest, you will be notified by noon on Thursday, April 12 whether or not you will be interviewed on Friday the 13th.'
Adams indicated the court expected to make its selection on April 13 after interviewing the selected candidates.
A timeline detailing the appointment process is available on the county's website at www.co.ellis.tx.us.
In other business, commissioners appointed Commissioner Dennis Robinson, pct. 1, to work with Adams to interview and select a new human resources director for the county and approved a two-year agreement for electricity supply, expected to save approximately $275,000 over the term of the contract.
