ENNIS - Several arrests were made last week in an effort to clean up the illegal drugs which have plagued the city of Ennis.
Law enforcement from the Ellis County Sheriff's office and Ennis Police Departments concluded a two-year investigation Friday, March 23 with the execution of search warrants at four different locations including ABC Tire at 200 East Ennis Ave.
Detective Sgt. Mike Hopson stated in a press release the warrants began being served at around 6 a.m. and cocaine was located at all four locations along with several firearms.
At ABC Tire, officers located marijuana, cocaine, ice (a form of methamphetamines) and crack cocaine.
The Waxahachie Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety were also serving search warrants at the locations.
Several arrests were made and two arrests came from one of the residences but many more were expected on Friday.
Rumors have been floating around the Ennis community which claimed drugs were being sold out of ABC Tire but nothing had come from these rumors until now.
Hopson said the department had made arrests before, but this time it was the young ones and not the older ones even though he expressed the older individuals probably knew about the dealings.
This was the second drug operation by Ennis police this year.
Another major drug raid was conducted in January when the Ennis Police Department joined forces with the Drug Enforcement Administration along with approximately 15 other law agencies and some 40 people were arrested which more than eight pounds of methamphetamines, several grams of crack cocaine, ecstasy and firearms were seized.
In the press release by the Ennis Police Department, a total of six people were taken into custody with four more arrests pending and Hopson was not willing to release any names at this time saying he believed it may hinder the service of the remaining warrants.
Multiple drug purchases were made from the locations and from the individuals arrested over the course of the two years which led to the search warrants being issued.
Forfeiture proceedings were pending for an undetermined amount of currency which was seized at two of the locations according to the release.
