PALMER - A vehicle reported stolen in Dallas on Monday, March 12 was found badly burned in an abandoned barn on Risinger Road in Palmer in an apparent case of arson.
Robin Haas of Kansas reported her silver 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer stolen after she let her brother, a Lancaster resident, borrow the vehicle to haul hay to Texas.
The SUV was found while local fire departments responded to a call of a barn fire in Palmer.
The vehicle was stripped of its tires and rims, although many other items which are usually stolen and sold illegally were still in the vehicle.
Jim Pharr, investigator for the Ellis County fire marshal's office, was called to the scene of the fire on Thursday, March 15 to identify the vehicle.
According to Pharr, the vehicle was identified from paperwork in the vehicle which survived the extensive fire.
The exact cause of the fire was unknown, although Pharr said it was intentionally set.
There were no suspects in the fire or theft at the time of publication.
