ELLIS COUNTY - Most of North Texas was being battered by high wind gusts, some exceeding 60 miles-per-hour Saturday, Feb. 24.

Ellis County was under a high wind advisory for most of the day and many towns were feeling the effects of the gales.

Red Oak reported the most damage with multiple downed trees and a street light near city hall was completely sheared off at the bottom. Johnny Pear-son Sr., Red Oak Parks and Recreation chairman, reported his carport got blown away by the strong winds. The cities of Wilmer and Ferris had power outages throughout the day, but nothing causing real damage.

Ovilla experienced a few outages, but no serious damage was reported to the public works office. Another big problem for locals was the sky-full of dust, which seemed to hover overhead with no apparent end. By late afternoon, the wind had died down and much of the dust had cleared.
