ENNIS - Ennis police were dispatched to the 500 block of Denton in reference to a report of shots fired Friday night.

There they found Xavier Davis, 25, of Ennis shot in the back of the leg during a fight.

The police said the incident had taken place inside a residence at 410 E. Denton St.

When Sgt. Fred Pontley was arriving at Denton, he was flagged down by a man who had pointed out the residence.

According to reports, Pontley then went to check inside the house when he heard moaning coming from somewhere in the home and found Davis lying on his back halfway in a closet.

Davis and another unidentified witness told police they entered the home and shortly after were assaulted by an assailant.

They then got into a fight with one of the suspects and according to the unidentified witness, another man came into the home armed with a handgun.

When Davis turned away to run, he was shot in the leg, the witness then fled the scene through a bedroom window.

The unarmed suspect was identified by the witness and was currently wanted by police, but the armed assailant has not been identified.

According to Det. Sgt. John Erisman, Davis was taken to the hospital where he underwent surgery and was in stable condition.

The suspects got away with a wallet containing $1,800.

Ennis police were asking anyone who had information concerning this incident to contact Erisman at the department, 972-875-4462.
