ENNIS - A 19-year-old Ennis Steel employee was crushed to death at 1:26 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 14 during an accident while working.
Law enforcement officials said employees were unfastening a shipment of 40 feet long steel rods off a flat-bed trailer when five bars weighing about 8,000 pounds landed on Hugo Moreno Espiricueta, crushing the lower portion of his body.
Diana Petterson, a public information officer with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, said OSHA was investigation the accident.
'If OSHA finds violations of OSHA standards they issue citations and those citations accompany a monetary penalty,' Petterson said.
A check of the OSHA website found Ennis Steel had not be investigated previously for any accidents or violations.
