FERRIS - The Ferris High School Athletic Department has made major changes, releasing head football coach Tal Sanders and promoting current Athletic Director James Rogers to an administrative position.
Ferris Independent School District Superintendent Mike Bodine said, 'We have decided to move in another direction and these changes had to be made to do that.'
Bodine said Sanders only had one year left on his contract and he would be reassigned within the district.
Ferris High School has recently begun advertising for an athletic director who would also fill the head football coaching position.
Applications were currently being taken until Jan. 15 and then the interview process would begin.
'The win-loss record was not really the reason these changes were made,' Bodine said.
Rogers would remain head basketball coach, something he has been doing for 27 seasons, and said he was pleased with the promotion he was getting.
Sanders was unavailable for comment.
