JKEKT Automotive and National Envelope Corporation would each receive a 55-percent abatement for seven years starting in January.

ADS Alliance Data Systems was granted a 50-percent tax abatement beginning in January.

'It is a good thing when we attract a business into our county. We attract them using incentives through abatements, ' Ellis County Judge Chad Adams said.

'Anytime we can bring a dollar into our area from another country, that is a good thing.'

Ennis City Manager Steve Howerton said city officials also granted a 75-percent tax abatement to the three companies.

'The industries we have attracted are top notch in their fields,' he said.

The three companies must pay 100 percent of taxes for inventory, but the county and city level tax abatements would be applied to the companies buildings, machinery and equipment.

'After seven years they pay 100 percent on everything,' Howerton said.

'They can only apply for a new abatement if they provide for new jobs.'

JKEKT Automotive which began constructing their first facility earlier this year which now employs 80 people responsible for constructing steering wheel columns for the 2007 Toyota Tundra models.

According to Howerton, the $34.5 million expansion project would allow JKEKT to eventually add 300 workers to produce steering wheel columns for the Tundra and the 2008 Toyota Corolla models.

'The abatement brings hundreds of new jobs and millions of new salaries,' Howerton said.

After consolidating plants in Grand Prairie and Corsicana the National Envelope Corporation planned to employ 297 workers in its new 330,000 square foot facility opening next June.

With approximately $24.9 million in machinery and equipment the company was expected to produce 25 million envelopes a day in Ennis.

'They are the largest manufacturer of envelopes in the United States,' Howerton said.

'They produce 230 million envelopes a day in the U.S.'

The third company, ADS Alliance Data was planning to open their doors for employing 546 workers next April.

They are the second largest call center in the U.S.,' Howerton said noting the employees would be providing phone based customer service for Bath and Body Works, the Spiegel Catalog and Lane Bryant.

Each company was constructing new buildings within Ennis Industrial Park, bordered by Red Road, Sterilite Drive and Farm and Market Road 1183, in the southeastern portion of Ennis.
