FERRIS - Former Ferris City Councilman and Ellis County Commissioner Court candidate Victor Burnett has been serving his jail time in a Texas prison.

Burnett, 47, was transferred from the Wayne McCollum Detention Center to the Joe F. Gurney prison in Tennessee Colony, according to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice website.

Tennessee Colony is about 22 minutes northwest of Palestine in Anderson County.

In July the former public official was sentenced to seven years after being convicted of tampering with a government record, by moving his inspection sticker from one car to another.

TDCJ projected his release date would be May 30, 2009, but the maximum date he could serve would be March 7, 2013.

Burnett would become eligible for parole later this year on Dec. 27.
