WAXAHACHIE - With the Keetch-Byram Drought Index at 380 and a soaking rain still falling, Ellis County Commissioners voted unanimously Monday to lift the ban on outdoor burning.
'The 380 is actually Friday's number, so tomorrow it will be even lower,' said Fire Marshal Investigator Jim Pharr. 'I recommend that we lift the burn ban.'
For purposes of education, Pharr also provided the court with a print-out from the Texas Administrative Code listing items that could not be burned even when there was no outdoor burn ban. Specifically, he said it was illegal to burn electrical insulation, treated lumber, plastics, non-wood construction/demolition materials, heavy oils, asphaltic materials, potentially explosive materials, chemical wastes and items containing natural or synthetic rubber.
