Ferris’ 30th Pioneer Day celebration is Saturday

FERRIS - It's that time of year again - time to honor the pioneers of yesteryear during Ferris' annual Pioneer Day celebration Saturday, Oct. 7.
Sponsored by the Lion's Club, Pioneer Day festivities were scheduled to kick off at 10 a.m. with a parade curving through town.
Long-time Ferris resident Lois Davis Wills was selected to serve as the parade's grand marshal and Pioneer of the Year.
At 10:45 a.m. Vietnam veterans living in Ferris will be honored for their service to our country.
Waxahachie-based KBEC radio was scheduled to conduct a live broadcast as washer and horseshoe pitching tournaments.
Karaoke lovers could try their hand at stardom from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and 3-5 p.m. while singing their hearts out at the gazebo.
Elyssia Marie and Sanal, a Latino and country band, were scheduled to provide live entertainment from 2-3 p.m. at the pavilion.
The George Garcia band was scheduled to perform at the pavilion from 3-5 p.m.
From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the pioneering spirit of women was scheduled to be honored with several seminars highlighting women's innovative spirit.
Some of the seminars include tribute to pioneers, spiritual women in today's world, a fall fashion show and the showing of 'Dream On … no, Really!' a film by Hey Girl Productions of Waxahachie.
Also new this year to the celebration, the Ferris Future Farmers of America were scheduled to host a multi-class car, truck and motorcycle show.
Plaques would be awarded for first through third places in each class and the People's Choice and Sponsor Choice winners were scheduled to receive trophies.
Several food, arts and crafts and game vendors are scheduled to appear for attendees enjoyment.
