HUTCHINS - Five years after being rescued by Hutchins police where she was forced to live in a closet, a young 13-year old girl was sexually assaulted by a cousin in her adopted family.
Van Zandt County Criminal District Attorney Leslie Poynter Dixon said a 24-year old man plead guilty to sexual assault of a child Thursday, Sept. 21 after assaulting the girl in a family-owned barn in Aug. 2005.
The man was married to the niece of the adoptive parents.
Her adoptive parents would not face charges.
The girl was forced to live months at a time in a closet filled with feces and lice in 2001 when she lived with her birth mother and stepfather at their Hutchins mobile home.
The birth mother and stepfather were serving life sentences for injury to a child with serious bodily injury.
At the time she weighed 25 pounds and stood three feet tall.
