ENNIS - A three-day campaign tour for Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison ended last week in Ennis after traveling through most of central and east Texas.
She met with constituents and officials from various parts of Ellis County.
Representative Jim Pitts introduced Ennis Mayor Russell Thomas and City Manager Steve Howerton, Sen. Kip Averitt, County Judge Chad Adams, Commissioner Heath Sims, Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson and Sen. Todd Staples, who is seeking the office of Commissioner of Agriculture.
Senator Hutchison spoke briefly about the importance of keeping our nation strong as a world leader, committed and working together as one to win the war on terror.
Land commissioner Patterson said he was committed to continue making loans available to veterans and since he has been in office, seven long term care facilities for veterans have been established in Texas.
Sen. Staples said he wanted Texas agriculture to remain strong when he was elected commissioner of agriculture.
He was asked if it was 'fact or fiction' if he authored the S-bill for the Trans-Texas corridor.
He said 'no,' and replied he was not the author and the accusations had been made to discredit him and his campaign.
