WAXAHACHIE - Ellis County Commissioners voted, 3-2, to transfer authority over the Department of Human Resources from the treasurer's office to the County Judge Chad Adams' office Monday, Sept. 23.
The department would be placed in the county judge's office, but the functions would remain unchanged.
'Chad [Adams] and I have discussed this since a few weeks after we took office,' said County Treasurer Ron Langenheder, who noted the change was a form of 'intimidation' two weeks ago in this newpsaper.
'Where we are today is where most counties look at separating the office. Our population is on the cusp. Our employee count is also on the cusp.'
Commissioners Hallie Joe Robinson, pct. 1, and Ron Brown, pct. 4, voted against the change, with Commissioners Larry Jones, pct. 2, and Jackie Miller Sr., pct. 3, voting for it.
Adams broke the 2-2 deadlock and voted in favor of the change.
'I believe it is in the best interest of our employees to cast my vote as yes,' he said.
