Funfair offers info for families

WAXAHACHIE - A Nursing Mothers and Families Funfair will be held at the Waxahachie Civic Center on Thursday, Aug. 7 from 5 until 8 p.m., publicity contact Ami Kachner announced.
The free event will present information on nursing, health screenings, child immunizations, and vendors of baby clothing to the public.
Kachner and Paula Livingston, a certified lactation consultant, along with a group of nursing mothers meeting in Waxahachie, have planned the event with pregnant mothers, fathers, and children in mind.
Low cost immunizations for babies and children will be available from Outreach Health Services. Dental and vision screenings for all family members will be available.
Peer counselors from the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program will be there to discuss questions about nursing.
Vendor of crafts, baby clothing, and baby equipment will be at the Funfair. A fire truck will be available for kids to explore. Door prizes will be given.
Waxahachie Mayor Joe Jenkins will be the master of ceremonies for the evening.
Speakers will share information on the advantages of nursing for mothers and babies, and how nursing can reduce the risk of breast cancer for mothers.
Pregnant Women, Nursing Mothers is a breastfeeding support and education group led by Paula Livingston which meets at 5:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month at the Women's Resource Center, 1204 Ferris Avenue, Suite E, Waxahachie.
