RED OAK - Nearly 50 illegal aliens were detained after their capture at K&W Grocery, following an investigation by the United States Border Patrol and the Red Oak Police Department.
According to Red Oak officials, numerous complaints came in from passing motorists, who noticed groups of Hispanic men standing around the closed-down store - located at Interstate Highway 35 and Ovilla Road.
Border Patrol agents said the illegal aliens would stand around the front entrance and on the side of the store, which has been closed for about a month, possibly looking for a way to get to work.
Red Oak Police Chief Don Fullerton said many of the illegal aliens - 43 at last count - were from around Ellis County, and after being transported to the federal agency's headquarters near Fort Worth, one was sent back down to the Ellis County jail because of a previous warrant. The Border Patrol, after conducting interrogations, will transport the men back to Mexico.
