WAXAHACHIE - A police officer eluded bullets and death Wednesday, July 2, while chasing a Lancaster man who had just tried to rob a Walgreens store.
William Garcia was charged with attempted capital murder of a police officer and aggravated robbery, according to Waxahachie Deputy Chief Brett Colston.
Police received a call about a possible robbery in progress at the Walgreens on High-way 77 around 10 p.m., when store employees were closing, Colston said.
Garcia reportedly started running when police showed up, and then turned to fire at the still-unnamed officer as he was chasing him.
Garcia was transported to Baylor Medical Center in Waxahachie and then taken to a Dallas hospital by CareFlight.
Upon his release, Garcia was to be detained in the Ellis County jail.
