WAXAHACHIE - Charlie Osborn has stepped down as chairman of the Ellis County Democratic Party.
Osborn, who said he would spend more time with his chiropractic business, has been the head of the Democratic Party since 1993, and has been re-elected six times.
'I would not feel right continuing as leader of the party and not being able to donate 100 percent of my time and efforts as I have done in the past,' Osborn stated in a press release. 'I want to see another individual have the opportunity to grow our party.'
Osborn's replacement will be Becky LeBreton, a member of the Democratic Executive Committee and a teacher at Waxahachie High School.
'I have enjoyed serving the people of Ellis County for the last 10 years and am looking forward to working with the new leadership,' Osborn stated.
The resignation of Osborn could be a sign of future things to come for the Democrats. After being swept by Republicans in county and statewide elections last year, focus has shifted towards the party leadership; Molly Beth Malcolm, chair of the state Democratic Party, will reportedly step down because the donkey faithful want to see a new direction within the party.
