FERRIS - The Ferris City Jail has received a new updated look.

A recent sewer collapse under the slab caused the jail to flood, forcing the city to remodel of the facility, said Ferris Police Chief Jeff Cottongame.

Cottongame said the department is totally out of room and needs a new facility, but they just didn't have the funds available.

After the collapse, city officials were prompted to bring in contractors to break up the jail floor to fix the sewer line running beneath the jail.

'The doors and the stainless steel commodes are the same. Everything else is new,' said Cottongame.

Upon the contractor's completion of services, officers gave the facility a fresh coat of paint and a new stainless steel stackable washer/dryer was installed.

Cottongame estimates $10,000-14,000 was spent to repair the entire facility with the officers working on some areas to keep labor costs down.

The chief later appeared before the Ferris City Council to thank them for the funds to repair their facility.
