WILMER - The Ellis County Press has been named the city's official newspaper again after council members and citizens voiced their disappointment over the Lancaster Today's coverage of the town.
In June of last year, Mayor Linda Root said she wanted to put city legal notices in a Dallas County paper, but a state law requires cities use generally-circulated newspapers for publishing of legal notices.
At the time, Root said a Dallas bonding company wanted to put their notices in a Dallas County paper, with Lancaster Today was the closest.
Today Newspapers publish papers in Lancaster, Midlothian, DeSoto, Cedar Hill and Duncanville.
Before the switch last June, Root said the Lancaster paper would not be providing coverage of the city's business.
'I'm pretty disappointed [at the lack of coverage],' said Henry Martinez.
The Wilmer City Council voted unanimously to make The ECP its official paper; originally, Martinez, Jesse Petton and Don Hudson voted to make the switch.
'The Ellis County Press has always covered our city for as long as I can remember,' said Wilmer resident Connie Bain. 'I don't read the other one.'
