PALMER - At the urging of longtime resident Elizabeth Penny, Palmer City Council recently agreed to a one-day suspension of the garage sale permit fee. Penny recently addressed the council about establishing several annual events, including a spring and fall festival.

The council agreed to suspend the fee to allow city residents to participate in what would amount to a huge garage sale.

While the event would amount to numerous individual sales it is hoped the event would attract potential customers to Palmer to participate in the event.

Penny was exuberant when presenting her plans to city council and the enthusiasm quickly filled council chambers.

'It is my vision to establish a number of annual events to bring visitors to the city. Festivals could include food vendors, games, rides and contests,' she said.

Penny also had plans to work with the Palmer Historical Society to beautify and promote the city. Council agreed to support her efforts and was quick to endorse her plans.
