RED OAK - A leaning telephone pole at the intersection of FM 2377 and Lassetter Road has one resident concerned.

'I know this is not a world-shaking problem, but if it ices, the pole will fall,' said Harold Gross. 'What puzzles me is why no one ever complains about this.'

The pole is located across from Wooden Elementary School in Red Oak, near the high school.

Red Oak Public Works Director Charlie Bertrand said he would look into the situation and find out if the pole belongs to Oncor gas company or if it's a telephone company. The next step, Bertrand said, would be to get the pole fixed, but the county would have to do it.

'The pole is in the county,' he said, noting Commissioner Ron Brown is looking to have the pole either replaced or repaired.

Gross said he believes the electric wires the pole currently rests on could break and cause substantial damage or harm to children.

'I'm surprised the police haven't done anything or the school district for Pete's sake,' he said. 'It's been there for at least two or three years.'
