ELLIS COUNTY - Waxahachie has produced professional sports stars, musicians, artists and community leaders.
Add models to the list.
Heather Gray, 16, could find herself doing photo shoots for magazines and print advertising, if her audition for Model Talent Search of Texas comes full circle. Agents from television to clothing stores attend the modeling school in Plano to search for local and untapped talent.
Gray said the school, founded by former Budweiser Girl Teresa Scordo, was receptive to her talents.
'They said I had potential, and that I [was] photogenic,' Gray said, who noted her modeling ambitions would hopefully take her to print advertising. 'I don't think I could watch myself on TV.'
Aside from modeling, Gray said she wants to study psychology in college and might graduate high school early.
'I'm open for travel and change,' Gray said. 'My friends, family are real supportive. My mom said she is ready.' On the side, the IHOP hostess would like to start learning how to box. 'I like to be aggressive with contact sports and stuff like that,' she said.
Model Talent Search, Gray said, gives girls an opportunity to enter the world of modeling without the pressures and cutthroat type of business atmosphere like that of other schools. The aspiring model will be heading back to the school for an additional photo shoot, and even if things don't turn out the way she hopes, the experience was worth it.
'I'm pretty confident, but it was worth it [if I didn't make it],' Gray said.
