FERRIS - Longtime educator Lucy Mae McDonald will make her mark on the school district permanent with her own school.

McDonald, who died three years ago, was a teacher and administrator in the Ferris Independent School District for 51 years - 34 of those being at old Dunbar Elementary.

The dedication ceremony will be held Saturday, Jan. 25 at 5 p.m.

'Ms. Mac,' as residents referred to her as, was instrumental in helping sooth the transition between white and black students during integration, forming the Interracial Committee among other things. She served as assistant superintendent from 1968 to 1984 before retiring. Educated at New York University and at then North Texas State University, Mc-Donald was the unanimous choice to have the new second- and third-grade campus, located at 500 FM 983, named after her.

Recently, Ferris Elementary became Hazel Ingram Elementary. Ingram herself was a longtime educator in the Ferris school district.
